Event Reports SISSINGHURST TASK - March 2006
On a cold and crisp day with beautiful sunshine, we met the warden in the car park. The pleasantries over, we walked to our hedge for the day which we had previously slashed and burned. Today, the seven of us were replanting the hedge with 250 saplings. Splitting into teams of 2 or 3, the warden showed us the quick way to plant, stake and tube. When lunchtime arrived we had broken the back of the task. Returning to the main buildings we were shown into the gardeners' rooms where we spent a pleasant time munching & talking.
Returning to out task, we finished off the remainder by 3pm. So, after heeling in the remaining saplings to stop them from dying, the warden kindly took us on a guided tour of the garden. Bulbs were much in evidence but not too much else at this time of year, but it was a privilege to see the garden at all. Having achieved all that was required, we said our farewells until the next time. |
